  • The House of Seasons

    To,
    My Dearest,

It’s been a year and eleven days since you had visited me. The colors of autumn have changed into cold winter white. The white I wore as a reminiscence of what we had. spring has been delayed this year but when it came it brought an old afterthought and a pungent smell.

Something rotten had been buried in the soil. The old house where we lived has turned into a crematorium of memories. It gave away an effervescence of afterthought that no matter how close December is to February, February will always be far away from December.

    21875992_133183817319303_529427299_o

You and I, born in those months, were just like them- February & December. Both seem to meet at the edges but they are far off the center. Sometimes spring is far behind the winter. Not all winter give into spring some come down heavily as the monsoon rain.

    Ours was that monsoon.

A forever of 2 months. A forever of the monsoon season.

In between spring and summer waited to witness this downpour. The monsoon of forever which came every year to soften the earth. Only to leave behind a petrichor effect that haunts the rest of the year.

Ours was that haunting.  The haunting that still finds resonance in the crematorium – our home, the place where we lived for an hour. That same place is someone else’s dwelling now. Someone calls it home now. “Home” the word we created and etched in the walls.

While you left for your house I left mine.  The only one I had. We left. Each one separately but simultaneously.  We left only to return to the crematorium of memories. The walls of it still whisper of us much to the dismay of the owners. The other day, the children got scolded for a stained wall. No one knew it wasn’t their fault. It was there all the while. Waiting to be discovered.  Eager to tell their story. The story of “How Winter Met Spring”. Perhaps it was meant for them- The House Of Seasons.

The House Of Seasons is for the walled.

  • The Cuckoo’s Spring

    To My Dearest,

Writing to you seems to be an addiction of mine but sometimes words fail me.

They fall silent on paper amidst the cacophony of sound.

There was a time when longing meant belonging. Hence the necessity of writing and reaching out to you. Now you are quite near and the words have become far.

No matter how hard I try, my words don’t reach you anymore. The doorway towards it is cluttered by unforeseen blemishes.

The sorrows which belonged to me have rekindled in someone else. They are no longer mine. Neither have you remained nor your troubles.

Perhaps this is the nature of things to be empty in lieu of your words. When words fail you have silence but when silence fail there remains nothing. Not even the voice within.

The cluttered thoughts give away to a cluttered handwriting. The hands tremble as you write making the reading impossible and the reaching untenable.

Yet, what is to come, will come to you at the necessary moment. The given resonance makes sound only in that moment. I hope you will be ready for that striving – ready when that moment comes. Scarcely, still, it will come your way taking you to unforeseen heights of success. Where you will redeem yourself for the sake of the you in you and others.

Your beloved will be by your side – the family you belong and the mothers that dwell in you. In those hours don’t run for cover, accept the strings of irony. For your moment has come like all others before you.

Until then live to tell that tale to the cuckoo singing in your balcony. It is searching for the spring in this summer. The spring only you can give. As it is the spring only you have.

Pre-booked cruises come at a price of 2500$ (1,75,000INR) and the last minute cruise while staying on land comes at a price of 1000-1800$ (around 70,000INR). • They named her Sky

The child was a rebel from birth.

“An outspoken girl, an untamed soul,”  said her parents

” A misfit, An outcast, A clown,” said her classmates.

“A defect, A fault and a glorious blot to the society”, said the world.

” A winged body and an unperturbed soul”, whispered the stars.

They remembered the day of her birth. A beautiful storm and a nightmare collided that day to create this masterpiece.

Her parents took all the agony to their stride. Her mother bore the most burn.

She gave out a loud shrill. All the bones in her body were breaking of the unbearable pain. Unable to withstand the agony he whispered a lullaby. Finally rain and lightning gave birth to a child.

The sky adorned the colour pink that night only to give away to the blue colour in the morning. Similar to sky the child reflected all the colours of life.

    She was a transgender.

    They named her   S K

  • A Booked Affair

A sultry june afternoon, the summer sun was lambasting hot balls of meteorites.

Alok felt tired and disgruntled with life, much like other earthlings. He decided to take a break from his boring corporate life and took a half-day leave.

As he retreated towards home, a roadside book café caught his eye. It has just sprung up in an alley beside his office. A black sign board lured him in.

“Easy to love, hard to break and impossible to forget”, read the sign board.

A pleasant looking café with an interesting view. Alok decided to dine there. He was pleasantly surprised to find their payment options. A book in exchange of another was the price for eating in there. He exchanged the self-help book he was reading with that of an old rugged booked, that caught his eye.

Days passed on and he forgot about the book lying aimlessly in his office bag. One fine morning, he got a glance of it while emptying his bag. A book of 100 unconventional poems. He thought of reading a poem every day. Thus, started his love affair – on the way to commute and while on the bed.

On day 2, a familiar voice beckoned him on the bus.

“Hi, Are you Alok from St. Joseph’s school batch 1990?” enquired a young lady.

    “Yes”, he replied reluctantly.

“I am, Maya from 2nd standard remember?”- the lady answered hurriedly and got down from the bus.

That night he remembered Maya, the weird bookworm kid they teased in elementary school. He kept on reading the book of poems. Relating and recollecting it with persons from his life. Each poem reminded of humans and their relationships. A couple of days later, he read a heart-wrenching poem on unforged friendship. This time he thought of looking for Maya. He kept searching him on his way to commute.

3 days later, they met again on the bus. This time, the conversation flowed smoothly and went beyond the regular exchange of pleasantries. They decided to meet often.

The following night, he read the 35th poem – a love poem on the loss and banality of life. As run his fingers through the words and read the 35th day, Alok remembered Maya and her chaffed olive skin. That night, Alok dreamt of Maya – dreamt of loving her and making love to her.

A few days later, Alok and Maya were growing strong with their companionship. After the lunch at the coffee shop, Alok took her to his apartment. One thing led to other and they started living their story. That day he made love to her.

He glanced at her pages – touching her, smelling her, breathing her, unclothing her and knowing her vulnerabilities. He read her thoroughly, immensely.

It was as if he was reading the book of 100 poems – unclothing and discovering her page by page, word by word, letter by letter. Touching the letters, breathing the words and finally kissing her as he uttered it. Just like the Book, Just like Maya. Open yet closed. Vulnerable yet strong.

Lying on his naked body, baring her all – skin to skin, heart to heart, mind to mind and soul to soul. They made love.

Many a relationship came into his life but none felt like Maya. She was real. She was the book of poems to his poetry. He realized the importance of her through the book.

Day 100,  today is the day for the last leaf – the last poem. Incidentally, this was Alok’s last day in town. His last meeting with Maya before he moved to another city. The last poem was on death. It reminded him of life and the moving time.

That night Alok finished reading the book but not the girl. Maya stayed with him.

Whereas, I, “The Book of 100 Poems”, found my place on a dingy bookshelf.

Waiting for my love story to end – the beginning of a beautiful ending.

    “When memories fade

And defiant hands try to escape –

When you long for a friend

In trying times that donot end.

    We will meet again.

In the land of forget –me-nots

Where memory plays its have-nots –

    In between the space

Where time slows down its pace,

    We will meet again.

    At the junction of wordplay

Where conjunctions and adjectives forfeit their play.

    We will meet again.

    We will meet again.”

  • 495 Days & 1 Night

495 days and 1 night we played.

Let’s divide it as an equal pay.

While you get to keep the days, that 1 night falls under my share.

1 night to sleep for the rest of 3650 days of life. Days till I decide to end the affair.

495 days and 1 night of repair. 495 days and 1 night is a love story to be fair.

Of conspiring fate and whispering playmates – 495 days we slept and the 1 night we kept awake. 495 days and 1 night of love. 495 days and 1 night of solitaire.

That my friend our lifelong play. Our answered prayers.

    495 DAYS AND 1 NIGHT.

  • April Came

    April came with the belief
That the delusions are part of self.
As you set to know her
She behaves like an absconding flower.
Day and night she eludes your garden
Only to give away to your haunted guardian.

    She has a mistaken look
    That your illusions partook.
    A jostled head
Upside down eyes in place of a blabbering mouth instead.
    Her scary hollow eyes
Gives away to the injuries done by a knife.
April is the one to understand
She is the depression you carry in disguise of a flower stand.

She made you wonder by the night
Sleepless and fragile in everyone’s sight.
    April came to you
As you are in need of the cue.
April bore the reach fruits of your troubled past
    April is here to last.

    April came to ascertain
Yours is one of those mental illness to be certain.
Of anxiety, depression, insomnia, dementia she smells
    April tells everyone’s tale.
April is here to make you belong
    To those numerous she throng.
April is your story to tell
April came to bring you out of the shell.
